Know Everything About Carbon Fiber Cutting Board
A cutting board is one of the most important tools in your kitchen. Most of the times, we used it for slicing food but we also need to make daily preparations. Cutting boards are made of wood or other suitable material like plastic and also carbon fiber. Although making a carbon fiber cutting board can be tedious, making it out of plastic is much more straightforward.
The process involves cutting and rolling the carbon fiber and then bonding it to the board with resin. However, since the resin molecule is similar to the molecules used in plastics, some of the resin molecules incorporate into the carbon fiber. If you’re not careful, these molecules will create a carbon fiber pattern on the cutting board.
What is Carbon Fiber?
Carbon fiber is a material that is made from carbon atoms. It is a very strong material that is resistant to heat. And also light in weight when compared to other materials. It is used in several products, mainly in cars, bikes, and in the construction of buildings.
Process of Cutting on a Carbon Fiber Cutting Board
Carbon fiber cutting boards are a great way to add a rustic touch to your kitchen. Not only do they look fantastic, but they are a lot more durable than glass cutting boards.
The one thing you have to worry about is how to cut through the carbon fiber. It would help if you had a decent sharp knife to cut through the carbon fiber, and I recommend buying two to use one while working on the other.

Could Carbon Fiber be a Suitable Material for a Cutting Board?
In my opinion, no. By its nature, the fibers would be exposed in use and so allow the ingress of moisture bacteria, etc., into the board’s structure. Unless the board were made using a high-pressure infusion system so that the bonding resin excused all air and filled all the minute cavities, it would not be suitable. This would be an expensive way to manufacture it and somewhat of overkill on its design. It might have some possible uses, though.
How to Make Carbon Fiber Cutting Board?
Making a carbon fiber cutting board can be a fun and easy project that can add a touch of luxury to your kitchen. There are different ways to make a carbon fiber chopping board. But here we will talk about the easy and classy way of making it.
To make the carbon fiber cutting board, all you need is some forged carbon fiber or carbon fiber pieces, epoxy resin, liquid plastic as a hardener. That’s all. Let’s jump on the process of making the board.
Firstly, you need a flat surface. You can use a plastic sheet as the surface. You can take that as the size of the board you wanted. Now bind the whole area with some plastic sheets to make a box. You can put them on a stand by using a glue gun.
Now you can add some wood pieces at the four corners to give it a classy look. You can just cut a round wood board into four pieces and put them in the four corners. You can use some clamps to stick the wood pieces in their place so that they cannot move.
Next, it is time to mix the products. You need two-volume of Epoxy Resin and one volume of hardener. Take them into a mixing pot and mix them with an electric mixer for three minutes.
After mixing the epoxy and hardener, you can mix the main thing, which is the forged carbon fiber. You can use a good amount to make it thick, or you can use less, as you want.
When all the items are mixed together, you need to put them in the plastic sheet that you created before. You can use your hand to pat it to make the surface flat. Make sure it covers half of the wood pieces. And don’t forget to wear gloves.
In addition, you can sprinkle some carbon fiber pieces on the top of the mixture. That will look so cool and will give a shiny look. Now leave it to harden the resin.
After the resin is hard, you need to put some clear resin mixer on the top to give it a nice view. For this, use 20/24 ounces of resin mixture and pour it into your mold. But before that, take sandpaper and scratch it to make it even. After that, blow out the powders with air blow.
Now, pour the resin mixture on top of that. Blow the torch over it if any air bubble is seen there. And put it to harden itself.
Once the resin is hard, you take the board, loosen up all the plastic sheets, and use sandpaper to make the edges blunt. You now have a beautiful and sturdy cutting board that is sure to add a touch of class to your kitchen!
Process of Clean a Carbon Fiber Cutting Board
I love the look of carbon fibre, but it isn’t easy to keep clean. It absorbs oil. I remember I bought a carbon fibre cutting board from Amazon. The oil absorbed into the fibre and made the cutting board look very clean.
Is carbon fibre cut resistant?
Yes, carbon fiber is cut resistant.
Cutting carbon fibre with a knife is a bad idea; it can cause the blade to break, dull, or even get caught in the fibres, which results in the knife being difficult to remove.
Is cutting carbon fiber dangerous?
Carbon fibre cutting boards are known to be more dangerous than their counterparts because they have a higher probability of containing hazardous chemicals such as formaldehyde.
I became curious after noticing a few new carbon fibers cutting boards being marketed as ‘the best cutting boards ever’. This made me curious as to how they might be different from other cutting boards.
The first thing I noticed was that it was much harder to get a grip on the board. I had to be more careful not to slip when moving it around. Not that slipping is a big deal, but it is a bit awkward.
I also noticed that the carbon fiber characteristic they were advertising as “heat resistant” made the board a bit slippery. So I had to be careful not to slip again when moving the board from the counter to the sink. I also couldn’t get a lot of grips on the board.
